A MEMOIR BY DAVID WALSH

The Long Echo
of Memory

Grief, love, self-understanding, and the stories we carry forward.

“The stories we love do not simply entertain us. Sometimes they warn us. Sometimes they prepare us.”
From The Long Echo of Memory · “Stories That Shaped Me”

A GLIMPSE INSIDE

Stories That Shaped Me

An excerpt from the memoir.

Not all teachers are real.
Some arrive through books.
Some enter your life as characters and remain as companions.

For me, one of those companions was FitzChivalry Farseer.

I encountered him during formative years, when stories often matter more deeply than we realize. I did not read him merely as entertainment. I recognized something in him. His loyalty. His burdens. His mistakes. His endurance. His longing to belong somewhere, to someone, while never fully feeling at peace in the world.

There was comfort in that recognition.
